Evan Peters Teases ‘Massive’ ‘X-Men Apocalypse’ & Bigger Quicksilver Scene
The X-Men movie universe officially launched with the first film in 2000, but the prequel X-Men: First Class reinvigorated the franchise and last summer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past essentially reset the series’ timeline. Next, X-Men: Apocalypse will be a finale to the new X-Men trilogy while also introducing new versions of characters like Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Cyclops (Tye Sheridan) and Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee).
X-Men characters from both First Class and Days of Future Past will be returning as well, including Evan Peters as Peter Maximoff a.k.a. Quicksilver. In Days of Future Past, Quicksilver had a standout scene that showed off his super-speed. According to Peters, X-Men: Apocalypse will feature a similar scene.
In an interview with MTV, Peters spoke about the scope of X-Men: Apocalypse, which will be “very epic,” as well as his new Quicksilver scene. Additionally, Peters was asked how his turn as Quicksilver will compare to that of Aaron Taylor-Johnson in Avengers: Age of Ultron:
“Well, yeah, it’s always difficult to try to top something like that. The special effects guys, man, they absolutely nailed that and did a fantastic job on it. This year we’re working on something that’s bigger and better, keeping the same elements that worked, then adding a few new ones. I’m really excited to see it all cut together, and I’m excited for people to see it, too. I think it’s going to be a really fun sequence in what is going to be a massive X-Men movie. The scope of it – with the end of the world and Apocalypse coming – is going to be a very large, epic ‘X-Men’ film.”
Peters will be joined in Apocalypse by fellow returning X-Men stars James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Erik Lehnsherr, Jennifer Lawrence as Raven Darkholme, Nicholas Hoult as Hank McCoy, Lucas Till as Alex Summers, and Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert. Additionally, new mutants joining the cast include Oscar Isaac as the titular Apocalypse, Ben Hardy as Angel, Olivia Munn as Psylocke and Lana Condor as Jubilee.
Prior to last summer’s Days of Future Past, much of the conversation surrounding Peters’ and Taylor-Johnson’s versions of Quicksilver focused on how each film would depict their powers. However, following Days of Future Past, the conversation became more about topping Peters’ and director Bryan Singer’s Pentagon breakout scene. Now, it seems X-Men: Apocalypse will improve upon the scene while keeping what fans loved about it.
Of course, it’s difficult to say what new elements will be incorporated, though some can be gleaned from the set photo released by Singer. Likely, the scene will again feature Quicksilver taking down multiple opponents while still having fun – like stealing a guard’s hat in Days of Future Past. However, whether Quicksilver will again listen to music during the scene remains to be seen, and it may be even harder to top Jim Croce’s “Time in a Bottle” from Days of Future Past.
As for the massive scale of X-Men: Apocalypse, that certainly falls in line with the title and the main antagonist of En Sabah Nur. Still, Peters’ description both of an “epic” movie and a new “fun” Quicksilver sequence should excite fans of the franchise for the upcoming X-Men film.
